What is General Psychiatric Evaluation?

A psychiatric evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that helps identify emotional, behavioral, and mental health concerns. It provides a clear understanding of your symptoms, history, and current challenges so clinicians can determine an accurate diagnosis and create an individualized treatment plan.

How Does it Work?

Your clinician will review your medical and mental health history, discuss current symptoms, explore contributing factors (such as stress, trauma, or life changes), and assess mood, cognition, and functioning. This may include standardized screening tools to support diagnostic clarity.

What to Expect During Treatment

You’ll have a supportive, judgment‑free conversation focused on understanding your experiences. Most evaluations last 60–90 minutes. By the end, your clinician will discuss initial impressions, answer questions, and outline recommended next steps for care.

Safety & Monitoring

Evaluations include screening for safety concerns such as suicidal thoughts, self‑harm, or significant changes in functioning. If immediate support is needed, your clinician will guide you toward appropriate resources and ensure a safe, coordinated plan.
